WEEK-END WITH TAMARA & DAVID
 |
 |
| |
|
Our July presentation started as usual with
our regular Thursday Milonga in Cafe Bali
where Tamara and David gave a short
presentation of their craft. Rob from
Australia , Lola, Joel & wife and daughter
and Matthew joined our circle .
The Welcome Milonga for Tamara and David
as well as for our weekend guest tangueros
Glen and Jacky from Adelaide, Matt from
Seattle was attending with Mina from Japan
, Suzanne and Hamid from New York found
place on Friday with a tasty Buffet in our
private garden setting of Casa Arista.
Unexpected tangueros who found their way to
us, Thomas from Germany with girlfriend Vita
from Jakarta.Very, very unexpected Paul Oen
who used to be our student in Jakarta but
has now moved to Bali . He actually visited
art cafe where he attended a Jazz night. At
Art cafe he found our tango flyer ,thus he
found his way to Casa Artista.
Teo was there and Matthew Ferrol brought Liza
from France .We danced and talked according
to our motto Talk'nTango. David and Hamid
discovered their passion in common : soccer
! It happened that they discussed strategies
and players form different teams until late
in the night...
Next Morning all students were in full
attendance on the parquet for Our first WS:
Tango elegance :Giro's and turns, followed
by WS" Boleos .Quite a challenge for most
of us. Very good Tami's tip for the Kick:
this was even new for me to understand.
The tango night was real fun . Pablo and my
son Julian were busy preparing a real
argentinean Asado, fantastic steaks and
chorizos were grilled. Argentinean
contingent around Marcel and Pablo attended
the evening. Casa's delicious home cooking
was well presented by our kitchen staff.
Longtime
tanguero Gianfranco, Swiss Christine and
daughter Mei Lin were seen .Wai Ching came
from Ubud. Mimi , Teo , Allison & Pablo from
Tango Bali . My daughter Aylin and nice
Ingrid had fun dancing Salsa in between as
some other guests were in attendance.
The show was brilliant, Tamara and David got
huge applause, from the Argentine contingent
specially. A vibrant party ending with
salsa and disco has everybody having great
fun.
Next day, Ingrid and Mimi and Aylin were
seen in the workshops Milonga and Vals.
The theme was brilliantly presented by
David and Tamara with ease and typical
latino humor.
After the workshops and a short break we met
all for a short sunset Milonga on the beach
in front of Gado Gado . The sand felt nicely
and soft for our swollen feet .
Except for , our Tanguero from Seattle who
has a never ending dancing energy , we were
all tired of tangoing .
As a very nice closing to our event we took
a drink at the prestigious Gado Gado
restaurant in beautiful beachfront setting
and chatting and having fun before we called
it a day.
From now on, we shall make this beach
Milonguita and a drink at Gado Gado
a regular closing program.

The 4th Annual Tango Bali festival 4-7
June 2009
proved to be another feather on the cap
of Tango Bali Club founded by Stefani K. The
4-day event was well-attended by local and
visiting tangueros alike. Guests from
Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the
Philippines and from as afar as Europe were
all there to join in the revelry. Of course
not to be missed out were the 6 invited
masters/teachers from Buenos aires headed by
Roberto Reis-Natalia Lavandeira, Francisco
Forquera-Carolina Bonaventura, Arturo
Gutierrez-Ana Wertheimer who did a great job
with their superb performance and quality of
teaching.
The
first night saw a vibrant welcome milonga
held at the Bali Cafe where maestro Roberto
Reis together with Natalia did a
performance. Some 50 people came for the
event and saw Bali Cafe teeming with
tangeuros all throughout the evening. It was
an indication that the festival was headed
to success.
The
Masquerade Ball took place the following
day. This is Tango Bali's signature
celebration of its founding four years ago.
Everyone who attended were all dressed with
their fabulous costumes and masks. Of course
the night won't be over without choosing a
winner as in past celebrations. Kenny from
the UK who was donned in a China man outfit
ran away with the grand prize of Rp
1,000,000. for best costume followed by
Marvin from the Philippines who was dressed
in drag. But no drag queen for sure.
Michael, from Germany romp away with the
third spot who was donned as "Aladin".
Everyone partied till 2 in the morning. this
masquerade ball was one of the best in
recent years and was held at the beautiful
Casa Artista.
The Gala night took place at Art Cafe on
Saturday, the last day of the celebration. A
special buffet spread of western and
Indonesian delicacies were prepared by Aylin
Kanginnadhi who owns and operates Art Cafe..
Everyone was satisfied with the food that
was served. At 9:30 pm guests were seen
headed to Casa Artista, a 2-minute walk from
the restaurant where the show was about to
take place.
Casa Artista was transformed instantly into
a mini theatre. The lobby was turned into a
stage with black satin curtains as
back-drop. The courtyard was filled with
seats beautifully arranged and swathed with
white cover and red satin bow to accentuate.
Guests started pouring in and by 10:30 pm
the show started. All three couples gave
their best shot, it being the last show of
their 5 city-tour of Southeast Asia which
brought them to Brunei, Singapore, Manila,
Jakarta and finally Bali. Casa Artista was
captured in one of its best shots as it
staged this show in theatre-like fashion.
Everyone who came to see the show were
satisfied. In fact, it was one of the best
shows Tango Bali has presented.
Workshops from Friday till Sunday were
great as all six teachers were hands-on
attending to the students' needs.
Tango Bali festivals should not be missed.
See you again next year for our next
presentation.

Shastro
& Maria in March 09
the initial presentation
of Tango Bali Club - Casa Artista's
"Special Tango Week-end" drew favorable
response from its club members and visiting
tangueros, making the event a remarkable
success.
Shastro
&
Maria
came out as great teachers with their
full mastery of the milonguero style. Their
methodical approach to teaching and
discussing the elements involved in the
6-hour workshop made it easier for students
to understand the finer points of walking,
connection, timing and musicality and the
embrace. It was refreshing specially for the
intermediate/advanced students to once again
be re-introduced to the basic understanding
of Tango.
The welcome and farewell milongas were warmly received by the participants.
Guests were treated to two fantastic dinners tendered in typical Bali
fashion. Everyone enjoyed the Tango ambience which made it easier for
participants to relate to one another in pursuit of their passion.
Casa Artista's "Special Tango Week-end" has indeed made it happen. Tango in
Bali will never be the same again.

| Casa Artista Grand Opening Nov. 29, 2009
 |
 |
The grand opening of Casa Artista, this magnificent masterpiece brought to fruition by Tango Bali founder Stefani K.. gave no less than international Tango stars Laila Rezk and Leandro Oliver in one unforgettable evening of pure Tango magic. The affair was even made top notch with the attendance of Ambassador Javier Sanz de Urquiza, the Argentinean ambassador to Indonesia and Bali's top commander-in-chief Panglima KODAM.
Guests from around the region and residents alike mingled with one another in the sprawling courtyard decorated with nice beautiful table set-up amidst the backdrop of an Olympic-sized swimming pool and balcony with a grand art deco design to greet owner, Stefani K. for a wonderful achievement.
The event has all the elements of class and sophistication. Kudos to Stefani's lovely daughter, Aylin, who helped in setting up with the physical arrangement. An artist herself like her mom, Aylin, did a wonderful job in bringing about the artistic aspect of organization.
Spotted in the crowd were Brazilian plastic surgeon Dr, Marco, who came all the way from Singapore with five other friends. They came to attend the festivities and joined the workshops conducted by Laila and Leandro. The Tango Bali Club members came in full force headed by Gianfranco Boca with erstwhile partner Anton,. Husband and wife Peter and Galina Brouwer were seen as well. Great to see Peter back in top shape.! Pablo Filomena joined Stefani at the presidential table where they entertained Ambassador de Uruqiza and the couple dancers. Anama Salsman, came with an invited friend ditto with Mimi Ingkirawang and Iris Patrizia who joined other TBC members, David and Maria, Ana Macy and Doug Macy, Nigel and Kathy, Doris, Sabine Kauffman, Bridgette, Rama surya with his Chinese find, Ying and Ana, Pablo's current flame. Of course, TBC's very good friends Paul and Tina drom Dubai, came and gave their support. It was nice to have them in this event.
There were less than a hundred people who came and they were all treated to a sumptuous dinner of combined Western and Indonesian delicacies specially prepared by Sunset chef, Rai. The food was terrific from the salads, to sausages, a variety of pastas, satay of chicken and pork as well as grilled chicken, beef and lamb to complete the Argentinean "parillada." An appetizing, to-die-for mango pudding with sago was served for dessert.
Immediately after dinner, the guests were treated to a special presentation by members and guests who did a showcase on Tango. David and Maria their Piazzolla masterpiece Adios Nonino. Husband and wife are getting better each time they come out to perform. Well, with constant practice, where else are you headed for but to perfection. And David and Maria did just that.
The second number gave way to a surprise presentation when TBC's very own Ana Macy for the first time performed with visiting Singapore-based, Filipino tanguero Dennis. The dancing couple did a nuevo classic to the tune of Libedinsky's El aire en mis manos. Everyone was in a state of shock when they saw Ana danced and performed to her heart's content complete with emotions. Call it her baptism of fire. But she did great ditto with Dennis who gave a very good lead.
Then came Paul and Tina who did a reprise of Paul's infamous Tango piece the Pink Panther. His way of giving a surprise number to Stefani. Paul was his usual jovial self as he broke the house down with his antics. Wife Tina was left to do the the Tango embellishments which she is so good at.
The last number gave way to a group performance courtesy of Tango Bali Club headed by mother and daughter Stefani K. and Aylin, along with Ogie Mendoza, Ana Macy, Matthew Ferrols, Iris Patrizia Gainnoulake, David and Maria Prasetya. the group danced to the music of Por Una Cabeza.
And finally, the highlight of the evening featured international Tango stars Laila and Leandro Oliver. The duo gave a sterling performance to the delight of the crowd. So impressive was their performance that it was like watching the show Una Noche de Tango where both are the main artists alongside Miguel Zoto. Superb!
The crowd was ecstatic as Laila and Leandro finished with their finale. Some Tango Bali members were even upfront in saying that they were the best dancers so far who performed ever in Bali. Everyone was satisfied with what they saw. It was another beautiful evening that will be remembered in long time.
Meanwhile, Tangueros wasted no time to indulge in their passion as they tango-ed the night away to the great music of Pugliese, Di Sarli, Calo, Piazzolla, Otros Aires, Libendinsky et.al.
Tango-ing in Bali is such great fun. From workshops to master shows, practicas to milongas, if it's from Tango Bali it must be very good.
It's now even better with the arrival of Casa Artista (www.casaatistabali.com), every tanguero's home away from home.
We
organize Tango events in cooperation with
Tango Bali Club, or foreign tango schools. Casa
Artista , a perfect weekend getaway for people
who want to combine their Bali holiday with
argentine tango
